Incentivise Base Building

I'm back again with another bone to pick.

 

I'm a very big fan of bases. I enjoy seeing peoples' designs. I enjoy designing my own. I enjoy raiding other peoples'! But sadly as of late i've noticed a very steady decline on the amount of bases being used on the map. Even Mainstreet is starting to run low, so i've decided enough is enough.

 

Here are some proposed changes I personally think will help circumvent this property crisis of ours.

Change #1: Disallow travelling gun stores (and even all merchant jobs for that matter)

 

One of the most reliable base builders are gun dealers/BMD's. A lot of them often have fun, interesting designs and they're always a lot of fun. They offer solid raiding targets for thieves while also offering a key service to the DarkRP community. They can pour hours into building a perfecting a magnificent gun store, only for some asshole to advertise "Travelling BMD, pm your location and i'll meet you there".

 

This simple malpractice is ruining the fun for good, honest, hardworking gun store owners.

 

I would also extend the branch to Medics as well. What good is it building a cool clinic when some guy is just running through the street healing anyone he can find. I understand it'll remove the convenience of an easy heal, but let's think about the people putting in the effort to make a cool RP friendly building for people to enjoy.

 

A couple additions i'd like to make is perhaps medics are permitted to travel out to heal if they have a clinic building (similar to an ambulance service), but only upon direct request by a user (they can't build a clinic and roam). I'd also like to see a change that battle medics may only heal their employer and direct associates to aid this rule change. Obviously we can't make SWAT Medic unable to heal citizens as it's directly their job, however they heal much less efficiently so i'd say it's okay.

Change #2: Slight buff to all-round money making

 

It's been asked before, but i'm gonna ask anyway, can we get a small buff to all-around money making. I'm talking small buffs to printers, manufacturing jobs, nightclubs, anything that is used to generate income. I understand the hesitancy to do so given the inflation from previous versions of the server, however especially with the recent additions of skins and reintroduction of vapes, it seems almost vital to do so.

 

Allow me to give some examples on how a small buff to money-making could improve the number of bases around the map:

 

#1: obviously more manufacturer jobs will be around due to increased income, allowing for more raiding potential (manufacturers would also be more likely to invest in printers if they pay a little better, which will give thieves a target rather than just constant empty raids, leading to more thieves developing bases for said printers rather than just roaming around looking for fights).

 

#2: Same point as before but regarding most jobs more willing to invest in printers if the losses can be made up for faster, again giving more targets for thieves, leading to more bases.

 

#3: If people have a little more money to work with, more RP buildings can start cropping up around the map. Bars as well as Nightclubs for people to splash a little extra cash on. Glorified Gardeners can start opening bakeries again as people will be more likely to purchase goods now that they can afford them. Therapy offices can become a thing again (oh god help us).

Change #3: Bring back the sex mod for Prostitute

 

I cannot believe that I, a grown man, had to type those words, but yes. The sex mod back from Supremacy, although ridiculous, gave the Prostitute class a function beyond a big boob citizen. Police had to watch out for prostitution down alleyways, Prostitutes actually had a means of income rather than just be bartenders, doctors were becoming trillionaires through AIDs medication sales.

 

THE PIMP ACTUALLY HAD A FUNCTION RATHER THAN BE A SLAPPING CITIZEN!

 

The point is if Prostitutes actually have a means of, y'know, prostitution brothels can start cropping up around the map again. I know they were ridiculous and more of a meme than anything but man were they funny, and they offered some pretty funny, stupid RP situations. We don't have a lot of dedicated base opportunities (gun dealers, hospitals, Nightclubs & casinos are all that really come mind) so it'd be great to see a little more variety.

Change #4: Add Convenience Store Clerk job

 

Final change i'll suggest for this post, and this one will require a new addon.

 

Nightclub Owners own bars that can serve drinks, and these drinks heal 10hp per. I think it's interesting to have ways of healing beyond conventional doctors, and would love to see a job role dedicated to this idea. Therefore I present the Convenience Store Clerk.

 

The general gist of it is they work like a Gun Dealer, but sell individual food items that heal a certain amount (i'd recommend max 25hp per best item). The items they sell are usually very cheap to spawn, and as such this would be more of a job for new or RP focused players. It'd be up to you whether you'd want to make food entities pocketable or not for small portable healing.

 

It may not be the most flash or exciting job, but it would be interesting to see convenience stores cropping up around town (i'd put a job limit of 2-3 personally, but up to you). As a recommendation on what addon to use for food, i'd recommend the Aussie Foods Pack:

That's all I have to say. I hope at least some of these changes will be considered. Apologies for the long read, however base builders in my opinion are the real backbone of what keeps DarkRP experiences fresh, and I would simply hate to see that aspect of the community fizzle out and die. Travelling BMD is deadass just a excuse to self supply *cough* *cough* I have NOT done this *cough* *cough*

 

 

CHANGE #2

 

A buff is well needed, however small, the server has been up for almost a year and still only like 2 people have T3 Knives. The server for sure just doesn't feel very rewarding for the time put in, and it causes a lot of people to just place gambling machines and shit because its the only thing that makes REALLY GOOD money.

+ with the incentive for weapon skins now, 400k for a 70% chance of a bum ass doo doo skin is a bit stupid tbh.

Having money definitely allows for more RP focused things to happen

i +1 all of this. one of the reasons ive lacked motivation to come on is the grind for money is slowly getting worse and its just not worth making a base and setting up anymore. i almost can just make more following mobsters around healing them and asking for donations. sucks when cooking meth and making moonshine use to actually give me purpose... im just a withering husk of what i use to be :C

The money shit is easy, there is no need to boost it. I bought a tier 2 knife and around a day later and im already at 700k. You just need to find out what works best for you, whether that be raiding, selling dupes, gambling or anything else and once you do the money is easy to find. I agree with the jobs part, at least add a job such as drug dealer that glorified gardeners could work with and create a drug empire. This could help with Mob roleplay as the drug dealer and glorified gardener could work for the mob, creating an income to fund their roleplay.

+1 to it all, Would love a new job as well as a slight buff towards money as it can take hours and days to save up just for a crate that might give you something you don't want/need at all. As for prostitute there just doesn't seem a reason to play as the role right now as it doesn't do anything different.

As for the Drug Dealer job idea, love it love it love it. Drug Distributor/Smuggler would be an excellent, exciting new role that wouldn’t need much changed to work. They could create synergy between Gang roles & Drug Manufacturing roles. It’d make Drug Dealer bases more prominent giving police more chances to bust crime.

 

Perhaps the role could be given a machine they can input certain items into to create new drugs seperate from Lumina’s weed & meth, but also distribute them as well.

 

Overall top suggestion Biggie, love your work.
