Government Overhaul (Mainly Talking about Mayor/Detectives/General PD

Mayor:

 

As I have mentioned in discord suggestions many times (See 19/09/2021) the mayor role is. well, lacking there’s nothing unique about in comparison to other servers, there only abilities are making laws that are hardly enforced by the police or lotteries. That’s really it. Which is pretty underwhelming for a role that controls the city.

 

There is an addon I’ve mentioned before that allows the mayor to change the taxes of individual jobs, or collectives, give monetary bonuses to other governmental jobs and purchase upgrades for themselves, the PD, and the entire world.

 

On top of this the addon adds a computer for the mayor which has a detailed list of those with gun licenses, previous messages, and announcements, what police are active (I believe it shows detectives, but I am unsure) and how much funding the government has access to.

 

Funding for the government can be damaged via PD raids in which the raiders would escape with the money and the vault will go down to 0 until it regenerates (just like Bank Vault)

 

This would add a much requested and heavily supported suggestion for more raidables within the PD whilst also fleshing out the Mayor Role more.

 

I have been told this mod is buggy and unusable by Pedro I believe last time I suggested it but I have tried and tested it many times on other servers and have found it working fine with no bugs.

 

It has a price of $10.99 AUD, but I am more then happy to personally front the cost of this add-on (through personal deposit or just another donation idm)

Police Section:

 

Detectives:

 

As currently holding the title of DT-XO within the detective division of the Orbital PD community I have experienced a lot in the means of detective work and its content it has to offer.

 

In this I have enjoyed several dozens of hours as a detective but have run into some easily fixable problems.

 

The 2 most are:

 

1. The disguise timer is simply too small for the work sometimes required; as a detective it can take a lot of patience and hard work to gain a criminal’s trust and doing it in 10 minutes is no easy task. One could argue they can simply make an excuse to leave so they can undisguised and reset there timer however the cooldown is 15 minutes.

My suggestion to fix this would be to either Lengthen or Remove the Disguise timer and instead implement a system in which detectives can be undisguised (Maybe some form of illegal metal detector? Or if they take x amount of damage it automatically undisguised them).

 

Or I suggest removing the cooldown timer or reducing it from 15 minutes to 5.

 

 

2. My second issue with the Detective role is the lack of availability. By this I mean there only being 4 job slots. This is problematic as the detective force is constantly getting more and more interest in the last month and we don’t have the availability to accommodate for it. A common theme amongst detectives is to pair up with another and carry out investigations together. That means realistically there can only be 2 operating detective groups at any one time.

My suggestion to fix this whilst also maintaining a small realistic detective force is to up their number from 4 to 6 or 8.

General Police:

My next suggestion applies to the rest of the Police force including Swat and Detective.

1. Inventory Check Tool:

Many Servers have this. I propose that after attaining Pd Rank Senior Sergeant, Senior Detective or Specialist that these individuals gain access to a weapon checker tool.

This would allow us to check those who go through a metal detector that buzzes.

I say Senior Sergeant, Senior Detective and Specialist rank primarily because it would mean only serious PD Players can have access to it so it does not get abused.

 

2. My 2nd Suggestion is to allow more locations for PD checkpoints. Despite being an underutilized feature of the PD, Checkpoints remain a fun and interesting method of interacting with the community especially dictatorship type mayors and regimes.

I propose every Tunnel (with a road going through it) should be allowed to have a weapon checkpoint.

This would increase police coverage from just outside the police station to the entire city map which is realistically how it should be.

 

3. Finally, my final suggestion is that Individuals Past the Sgt Rank and any Swat past Private First Class and Any Detective Past probational Detective should have access to customizable jail times.

Being allowed to choose from 2–10-minute jail times would be a fantastic way of ensuring criminals who murder, or kidnap aren’t punished the exact same as someone who say, trespassed. I propose that anyone under these ranks have the standardized 5-minute jail time, however.

 

 

It is in my belief that all these suggestions made will greatly increase the activity of these government roles as well as flesh out currently bland roles.

This mod has been down voted plenty of times before, I'm unsure why people keep bringing it up

Because the reasoning is confusing and contradictory to the mod and its ratings/feedback by a large population of players in and out of orbital rp. The overall gmod community claims its one of the best whereas the root as described it simply as "buggy and unplayable" though my experience has been very different

I’m gonna +1 this suggestion I think it all sounds very good especially the detective u are right the times are too short and the cool-downs are too long I believe even the higher rank u are the longer the time cause 10 mins too do a full blown investigation U get caught and fail which always suck longer times mean longer investigations which can help track down bigger operations such as the mafia or weed operations etc.

I reckon being mayor can get pretty boring. It might not be the highest priority adding mods for it though since it's a job where only 1 person can play it, and even then, the person who plays Mayor frequently changes.

 

Perhaps there are some roleplay ideas people aren't considering? There are a few roleplay scenarios that jobs can play out without needing mods.

 

Coming up with laws is challenging I think, because some are very easy for police to enforce, and some I suppose aren't. On top of all that, police are constantly dealing with criminals so they can't always enforce stuff.

 

Mayor's job really works with Police and depends on them.

 

It also seems like mayors job is constantly under threat so maybe you can't make many public appearances, and that kinda sucks.

 

I am constantly finding I have no damn clue who the mayor is cause they're never outside, I imagine they have to just hide in a room and do nothing lol.

 

Seems kinda difficult to tackle, almost like the mayors job at the very core doesn't work too well.

Even though what Ricky said earlier, I think that decision has changed now that more players have gotten the chance to play as the role of the mayor.

 

The mayor role to a lot of people is a real AFK grind, you set some laws to keep the police happy, start lotteries and place down printers then off to the AFK land you go.

 

I would really like to see this addition to the mayor's job as it would make it far more interesting to play and it would provide a unique incentive that our server is much, much more unique over any other average DarkRP server.

 

The mayor's job in it's current state almost feels useless, and I wish that could hopefully change with this suggestion.

REVIEWED

1. Slaw Mayor is a DENY because it's just an improvised UI of the current mayor system, and also we are not that really in the favor for add-ons as it might lead to unnecessary bugs and problems. If we had to improve the Mayor system right now, we don't need to buy an add-on for it, the higher-ups can make something or improve the mayor system if its really necessary.

 

2. The disguise has been REVIEWED removing the disguise time limit will be overpowered at some point and can lead to unnecessary abuse of it. Some key points we agreed is that disguise will be taken off or worn off if the disguiser has received certain damage, and we can somehow lengthen the disguise time limit only for the Detectives meanwhile the cooldown will be the same

 

3. Detective job limit is a DENY because it will only stay with 4 people as it has the only unique tool which is the disguise tool unlike the other jobs in the PD and will always stay like that.

 

4. The PD Checkpoint will be ACCEPTED as to improve the roleplay of the PD, we will make a rule change about from PD can make checkpoint just outside PD to PD can make checkpoints on any street tunnels such as Main Street, Industrial and etc.

 

5. Jail Time suggestion will be a DENY, this was a thing 5 months ago and it really did not matter even there was a rules of how people should be jail and how long they will be jailed based on their actions. Even if they would commit a minor offense such as assault, police wouldn't still follow their rules regarding how people will be jailed.
